Dan's Story

April 2018

Before visiting orthopaedic surgeon Matt Noyes MD, PT, Leetonia resident and local police officer Dan Valentine lived with chronic arm pain for two years without relief.

"I felt constant pain in my biceps, elbow and forearm; and my fingers were numb," he explained. "The pain was very frustrating and affected almost every aspect of my life. I work as a police officer, which can be physically demanding, and the pain made my job more difficult. I experienced discomfort with simple, everyday tasks like writing and lifting a utensil to eat. The pain also caused me to limit many of the activities I enjoy, including playing golf."

"I tried many different therapies, from medications to injections, but the pain persisted. My physician then suggested that I make an appointment with Dr. Noyes, who had recently joined Salem Orthopaedic Surgery as an upper extremity specialist. After Dr. Noyes met with me and reviewed the results of my MRI, he recommended that I have an outpatient arthroscopic elbow procedure to relieve the pain in my arm."

"At first, I was apprehensive about having surgery, but Dr. Noyes took the time to explain what to expect and answered all of my questions, which was very reassuring. Right after surgery, I felt immediate relief from my pain. My overall recovery time was short because the procedure was minimally-invasive, and I didn't even need to have physical therapy. Now I feel great, have gone back to work and am looking forward to playing golf again without pain. I'm grateful to Dr. Noyes, and would encourage anyone who's suffering from chronic arm pain to contact his office for an appointment."
